Corruption in Ghana is common; even pastors are corrupt
General News of Wednesday, 9 October 2013
Source: peacefmonline
Corruption in Ghana has been common since independence. Over the years, Ghana’s score and ranking on the Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index has improved slightly, ranked higher than most African countries.
However, there is a growing perception in Ghana that government-related corruption is on the rise in the Mahama-led administration.
But a Deputy National Propaganda Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Solomon Nkansah, has said fighting corruption in Ghana has become tougher since even some religious leaders are not worthy of trust in recent times.
According to him, Ghanaians should not blame President Mahama for Ghana’s corruption since the late Ex-President Mills was unsuccessful in fighting corruption in his government.
Solomon Nkansah is of a view that, to fight corruption “then we must all be very careful and assess ourselves well. First take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye”.
He, however, said on Adom FM that, “Even in this country, Pastors keep preaching that ‘come and ye shall be rich’…is it not the same money they (Pastors) want? If you willingly give out huge amounts of money in church, trust me, you will be appointed as an elder”.

We all know u lot are ignorant but to be this ignorant is unforgiveable. A fool in his demise can never be awakened. Well even the President is soo ignorant he seem to have lost control not that they ever had that control anyway. Surrounded majority by non prominent characters rather than reknowned scholars. The problem is ghanaians see education and the need to have internationally reknowned scholars as arrogance. Our plight now is that the NDC has already sold us on. A bad deal for the oil fields accepted to line individual pockets.. The oil fields are already sold off. you all ought to have a conscious word with your pillow. Pathetic characters.

Ewes staged armed robbery revolution to loot every penny in Ghana's treasury.Just think of many buildings these government officials and those who work in the government have. Where do they get money to put up all these buildings? The houses these parliamentarians are buying in the United States and Britain. Where do they get money to buy all these assets?
Even citizens can not afford to buy houses in this economic down turn. But our politicians are buying expensive buildings in the United States and Britain. Ghana is doomed in the hands of John Mahama and his NDC. God help Ghana.

This is not surprising with the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary all corrupt. Jeff, it's not only the civil service but across board. What is disturbing is the fact that nothing happens to even those who are caught in the act. That is why the country is broke. If all taxes are collected and paid instead officials collecting bribes, Ghana will not need any budgetary support from the developed world. In fact, there would be surplus for Ghana to become a donor nation herself. The current world system is build more on perception than the truth. I can list thousands of corrupt practices in the west that goes unpunished.
There's already bad press in the west about Africa and we can not be helping ourselves singing bad tunes at home.
It has become accepted in the west that every black man is a thief. Now ask yourself, are you a thief?
I rate the current leaders of Africa as caretaker leaders. Very soon the continent should have a new breed of great and patriotic leaders, but till then, we have to help prepare the ground for that day. The continent needs great leaders and not just one or two, at least 20 at a time to cause a massive change.
I must be frank with you, these western institution do these reports for fun and we must not entertain it.
I do not care which gov't is in power, I will not fall for this bad image of the continent, especially when those same institutions will refuse to monitor the bad practices from their multi national companies that have left the continent what it is.

There's a big difference between being truthful to ourselves and allowing ourselves to be mocked by foreigners.
Just a few weeks ago, A Ghanaian General made the unpardonable mistake of speaking the truth. Most Ghanaians have a bad attitude to work and any foreigner gathering a perception of Ghana would do it from the point of view of the ordinary Ghanaian worker and not our leaders( although there might be problems above). But instead of encouraging such honesty, most people dissented on him like a tonne of bricks. Do we love the truth or do we hate it.
I always maintain, I defend my family outside whatever the fault and correct them inside. It is called image protection and that is very important in business.
I could give you a practical example. You have a disabled child and you know that, but a friend comes to your house and his son starts shouting, oh the boy is crippled. Will you accept it because it is true or will you defend your son?
Try and visit the many western sites, CNN, YAHOO and BBC and read the comments about Africa and see if you would enjoy the truth. Fruit for thought.

It does not matter how good you are, you will always have people who will try to paint you bad. Do you accept it or challenge it especially when they are just human like you and probably want to defect attention from themselves.

I visit western sites a lot and you would be surprised to use how the nations that do well on these indexes have big issues, like the spying scandal in the the USA and UK, but their people will belittle it and defend their country. Is that why they are always doing well?
Remember the same spying mentality was one of the bad things of the police states of East Germany, USSR etc.
They use it when it suits them. Let us learn to solve our problems our own ways and not buy every perception from foreigners.

Why do you think it is so? And again, who do you think brought this particular survey news list before the masses at this particular time of financial hardship in the country? Remember what General Nunoo Mensah said a couple of days ago? Well, if they can not get you off the front door then the back door may do just fine. Such was the headache they systematically burdened Nkrumah with until he was ousted by force with the same Ghanaians cheering on. Now, many are those who seriously regret that chapter of our political history, but too late is the proverb from the sages.

Instead of knocking sense into the heads of our corrupt institutions you tend to accuse one tribe for your incompetence. Is Kumasi the seat of government? If Asantes alone can cause this situation then we must be proud of them and hand over power to them as well. It is fools like you who are turning them to demi-gods because you credit them with everything logical or otherwise. If out of about fifty or more tribes, they can single handedly cause this mayhem, I say they are magicians and must be handed the reign of affairs of this country to also turn things around. Ghana, within a period of just a little over 4 years, is a failed state under the recklessly corrupt and monumentally inept John Mahama/Amissah Arthur NDC gov't. The NDC gov't has given real meaning to the "e de bee k3k3" slogan and has effectively lived up to the billing and the mantra, by sending Ghana into the doldrums. They have managed to supplant Ghana in the very pits within a period of just 4 years. Is this what Ghanaians signed onto under this NDC gov't? Your guess and answer is as good as mine. Ghana however has to live again, Ghana has to go back to it's former glory, Ghana has to lead again, and the journey begins with you, yes you. Vote out this monumentally incompetent, magnificently inept, outrageously corrupt, highly visionless and failed leadership out of power, because, we cannot be doing the same things over and over again, and expect any different results. The NDC gov't cannot achieve the needed growth and development to meet the unemployment challenge threatening to cave the country in, the infrastructure challenges requiring just token amounts to fix, but has been appropriated corruptly by the powers that be, leaving the country in a mess, our health challenges, agriculture, the economy and our finances, our debts etc, etc. The selflessness, empathy, compassion for fellowman and the struggles that the Ghanaian goes through every day is completely lost on the NDC gov't of John Mahama/Amissah Arthur coupled with their lack of focus, intelligence and mental capacity to address the myriad of problems facing the masses, and Ghanaians need to vote them out to safeguard the future of the country.

Corruption is as a result of low self esteem, lack of self respect, incompetence, lack of fore sight etc. Look at the incorruptible personalities in our resent history: Mandela, Nkrumah, Martin Luther King, etc. They were focused on their goals and they were full of energy forging forward with victory in their minds. Nothing else mattered but the job at hand, they were even prepared to do it at the expense of their families and their own safety. Compare them to the leaders we have in Ghana today, they lack leadership skills and so they have no confidence, they have low self esteem and no self respect. They put themselves above the law and therefore are unable to punish wrong doing by others including the traditional rulers. Look at what is going on today, we have Chinese, Indian and other foreign nationals on our soil, pushing aside our laws and mining gold illegally right before the eyes of these so called "Kings and Queens" How could they do that unless they have the support of these Kings and yet our political leaders cant investigate and jail them if found guilty, they are above the law. They would ones in a while arrest some of these miners and display them in the media to demonstrate to us that they are on top of the job. If they really want to stop this practice, why don't they tackle the root cause of the problem? The result is that the rivers are being polluted, the environment is being degraded and the citizens are loosing their farm lands without compensation. Our leaders are CORRUPT and useless, we are in trouble.

There is no doubt Ghana is third in corruption among all the countries in the world. The recent elections where
one party issued Laptops and Cars for
votes. The worse was when this same party bribed Polling Agents to swap votes is an indication that our beloved country Ghana has a long way to corruptfree nation. Policemen and women, public officials and custom agents are the norms. So don't be surprised that one day Ghana will be number one. Let me remind you a country like Ghana has no Airline that flies to US and Europe because the workers of this Ghana Airways shared the seats among themselves and the relatives of the then ministers cause this airline to go bancrupt. If
you buy a house from someone and wants to change a common name the Housing Authority in Ghana wants GH50million before the name could
be changed. If you think I am lying go
there now and act like you are from
Europe and I bet you the guy at the counter will assure you that GH50million will do the job in two days.

Ghana, if care is not taken, will implode because people are fed up with anything this government is doing. One fact that should not exit our memory is, when this government came to power, the national debt stood at around $9 billion dollars and within four years, they have ballooned the debt to over $40 billion so, what did they do with the money? This is a question Mahama himself cannot answer. Some within the government says they have invested the money in a long term project but that is an excuse even the mad person will never accept.
How does a government take loans and share it among those in top positions? Does it make any sense? One should imagine the rot that had taken place at Gyeeda, Sada, Subha, Isofoton and the huge money given to Woyome for no work done. We have a government that connives with foreign entities to dupe the nation just to share the loot and they foolishly parade themselves as better alternative to NPP.

OH! GHANAIANS!.......Look at your own responses pointing fingers at and insulting yourselves........and at the same time, deeply rooted in CORRUPTION yourselves!!!!!!!
Why don't you all look into your hearts before 'throwing stones' at each other - (me included). We are our own enemies.......we just love to hate each other whilst the West come round to rape us dry of our rich natural resources.
If it's about NDC and NPP, we respond in numbers with insults but, when it comes to positive ideas to be shared.........ABSOLUTELY NOTHING on this forum...........all because of our enslaved CORRUPTED minds.
Corruption is deeply rooted in our society from our homes, streets, churches, market places, offices, roads, schools and from every nook and cranny of our society.
And worst of all....having a USELESS president claiming that corruption has been with us since Adam and Eve and then goes ahead to sign an oil contract on behalf of corporate GHANA - to receive only 11% and his cronies E.O. Group get 1%???????????
Then I'm afraid we have a long way to go.
For the MOST CHURCH-GOING nation in the world?????? We need to ask ourselves some serious questions.
And with this president, hmmm!!!! It's even worse!
GOD BLESS GHANA!

I have said it elsewhere that there's little difference to choose between Ghana & Nigeria when fraud and curruption is concerned, the two countries are percieved as equally currupted by the Western world.Let nobody think Ghanaians are saints atleast I am old enough to know the reasons that brought Rawlings to stage a coup in Ghana, its an unprecidented level curruption never experienced anywhere in Africa. If after the killings of the Generals the Ghanaian society is gradually drifted to their old trade of acute curruption practices; why draw a parrallel comparism with Nigeria.
What has Nigeria got to do with your currupt problems here in Ghana, why not deal with your curruption problems and stop the equalisation tendencies of dragging Nigeria into it. Afterall Nigeria with all its problems has never turned to Ghana for any favour or help of any kind, the reverse is rather the case so pls Ghanaians should mind their own business and leave Nigeria alone. Go check the level of Nigerian investments in Ghana, giving employment to thousands of Ghanaian families all over the country. The Ghanaian will quickly bring Nigeria into focus in order to cover up its own currupt habits. Ghana is most comfortable in any sphere of curruption practices for as long as in comparism they are rated better than Nigeria, what a shameful level of mentality.
Nigeria has moved on in many sphere of human development and has no time talking and comparing an 'Ostrich egg with fowl's'
If you care to know goggle: Nigerian Space Programme and read about its mission to launch into space by the year 2020 with Nigerians onboard. You can as well goggle Lagos elevated light rail mass transit project & read as well the development of 1st underground rail project in Africa South of Sahara, Go goggle on Eko Atlantic City project, the likes you see only when you travel only to Dubai which first part was completed and launched by President Clinton in 2012. Goggle Nigerian Space Drone Acquisition Aircrafts. These are a few of what Nigeria is doing on the quiet and not the silly calling of names and comparism of fraudulent charracter with others who have nothing to do with it. Ghana and Nigeria are not in the same class so pls take your troubles elsewhere and leave Nigeria to solve its problems.

My God! Ghana!
What's wrong with the leadership of that country Ghana?
I have lived and worked in another third world, much poorer, country than Ghana for 4 years without witnessing a single price increase.
Although this 3rd world country is relatively poorer than Ghana and not an oil producing/exporting country, I've never ever witnessed even a single 1% increase in fuel prices, let alone utility tariffs and import duties. And all of these are humanely priced for even a messenger in the public service to afford without any complaint whatsoever.
In this 3rd world country, I imported a SUV from the US, paid a flat rated nominal and easily affordable import duty and registered this SUV UNDER ONE ROOF, which the locals call "ONE-STOP SERVICE".
The whole clearing to registration process took me under 4 hours (3HOURS & 10 MINUTES TO BE EXACT), without the hussle of using the services of a clearing agent or DRIVING all the way to DVLA to register my MERCEDES GL450 series SUV.
Mind you, in this poor 3rd world country, you could go a vacation for one year, leaving everything in your house with the doors and windows ajar. You'll return and find everything in your house intact - No crime whatsoever.
This is how life should be lived, not the hell we have in Ghana

What a bruising indictment on the nation! Shame when incidence of corruption is reported nothing concrete is done about it due to the fact that the entire system is corrupt! Everywhere!
Everywhere in the country is marked by damning and demeaning act of corrupt practices! Go the Postal Services to pick a small box of parcel of a few personal belongings a pre-primary kid can readily count and of no significant value and a dark wicked and evil face of a Custom officer pulls up demanding duty tax or whatever they call it! Don't pay and you would be embarrassed, frustrated until you lose your temper which in itself bad. In the end you dig out of your pocket money worth twice the value of the items you're receiving!
As for high level corruption the least said about the better; it's an open secret now and the canker is biting so wide words can't describe.
If the government is serious about fighting corruption, it must not protect the nation wreckers copiously exposed. They must be prosecuted by law without any meaningless delay tactics to cover up!
Oh Ghanaman! Did we need Gallup polls to tag us so shamefully? The evidences are so visible; every facet of the Ghanaian life is strewn with corrupt personalities, small and big!
Disgusting to say the least and so disappointing our governments both past and present have literally become helpless in kicking the rot out of our social and economic fabric!
A national debate is needed to address the issue and synthesize the public on the havoc corruption is wreaking on the economy and our investor confidence index.

JC, I don't know your age though but calling for soldiers intervention is not the answer. People alive of 50 years and over today had witnessed most coups in the country and the last one staged by Mr. Rawlings deprived some innocent individuals with their hard earned worth. In the long run, Mr. Rawlings who was then as poor as church mouse and eaten (Yo ke Gari) in those days on credit basis is now a millionaire to the Ghanaian standard. Was his coup worth, absolutely not. It was a hidding agenda known to him and his gangs.
What we need now is civilian demonstrations against corruption, social vices and economic mismanagement which are clearly visible at the government corridors and all state institutions. With the huge loans contracted by NDC governing party which are solely been stolen and part use to pay civil servants and public workers to the detriment of the Ghanaian populace, if we fail to stand up against it at this time we will be doing dis-service to our grandchildren who will grow up to inherit and service such loans which were not fruitful in any way to the entire nation but a little percentage of the populace.
Well organised peaceful demonstrations around the country, led by Ghana Teachers Union which is of greater numerical force will send a stern warning to the government to put his acts together. If persuasion of legitimate grievances fails to register into the government's head, then other alternative may be applied. E&OE.

Due to the introducion of western education in west African countries especially Ghana has made many young managers and accountants to make money quick and within a twinkle of an eye their assets is uncalculable. To me it is not the fault of the government it is our own behavious. Theres an adage which says "Theres a payment for sitting idle and the vice versa" In short let Ghanains avoid shifting blames and deal with such indescent behaviours. The most painful thing is that the uneducated peoles bears the largest percentage of tax to the advantage of the rich.

Many graduate are out of school and have no job to do simply because theres a very high level of corruption in Ghana workers who are due for retirement are not willing to give up their position why because theres a secret thing hidden and apart from him NO ONE KNOWS. I think this will help to minimized it if not completely eradicated.
