The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), on Tuesday took legal action at a Cape Coast Circuit Court against two companies, Standard Developers and Mansfield Enterprise, both in Cape Coast, for non-payment of employees' contributions totaling Gh?5,422.11.

Standard Developers owes a total of Gh?4,764.51, and its Chief Executive Officer, Mansfield Amedor, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of Gh?6,000 with two sureties.

The same Mansfield Amedor, who happens to be the Managing Director of Mansfield Enterprise, the second establishment which owes Gh?657.60, pleaded guilty with the explanation that he had been out of job for some time now, but was remanded into prison custody.

He would re-appear before the court on Monday, April 28.

SSNIT Prosecutor, Ms. Irene Appiah Amponsah, told the court presided over by Mrs. Florence Kai Otu that both companies were covered by the Basic National Social Security Scheme under the National Pension Act.

She said inspection conducted by SSNIT officers into the pay books of both establishments from January to June 2012, revealed unpaid contributions, bringing their total indebtedness to the respective amounts quoted above.

She said demand letters were sent and personal contacts were made to Amedor notifying him of his obligation under the law to pay his indebtedness to the Trust, and his failure to oblige, resulted in the legal action against him.
