These useless NDC people can never solve the problems they have created. Otherwise, THEY WILL NOT MAKE SUCH ATTEMPT TO DISCREDIT THE PENDING DUMSOR DEMONSTRATION. What do they mean? People should not say that we have problems? GHANA, PLEASE KICK THESE CRIMINALS OUT IN 2016.

Any gift is a gift no matter what. In any form that you define it would be abused. It is a means where prople in authotity use to line their pockets withpublic. This would really affect the politicians so they would go all ends to defend it and give various definitions that would suit them. In some advance countries people fear to accept gifts. In US public officers fear to accept gifts because one would be prosecuted if it is found out that one has received gift from the public. This gift giving is killing our public services. In many of the offices many people there are always expecting gift before they are supposed to do what they are expected to do. Many people rely on it to live ostentatiously and the adore that. Which means that those who don't give are cut off from receiving better treatment from the officers. It is really a shame and it is drawing us back and would not progress as a nation. Our system is so rotten that the politicians are not ashamed to give different meaning to GIFTS. Any definition given would be abused. Is it true that in Ghana whoever gives a contract is given 10 per cent of the contract money. I want somebody to confirm it or deny it. If it so then it is killing us and putting unearned money into people's pockets.

It will be ok for an MP to accept 200 cash gifts under 10.000 cedis without declaring them. Make it simple, all gifts above 500 cedis must be declared in a parliamentary book.Fullsop!

I disagree, a gift to an official in the peformance of his duty is a gift to his employer, the state and must be declared. Deckaration can mean that a gift like a goat, sheep or cow can be donated to a boarding school, hospital or childrens home. If that official were not an officer he would never have been given that gift, so why shouldn't it be declared? 500 cedis is a lot of money.

The assets declaration bill geared towards eradicating corruption amongst public officials OR LEADERS is inadequate and will not solve the problem as it has a huge loophole that can still be exploited by these public officials.
Instead of amassing wealth in their names, they can still do so using the names of members of their families.
The correct solution is to put a perpetual CURSE on those who get themselves CONNECTED in these nation-wrecking practices AND THEIR FAMILIES. Of course since public service could be viewed as a noble service to society there should be a Blessing statement for the genuine people who opt to go in there to help transform society.
The way to accomplish these reforms is for Parliament to approve these measures in the Oath Of Allegiances that Public service leadership pledge before assuming offices.
Can they carry generational curses with out any worried? I guess not. This is the only way that they will stay away from moneys and assets that do not belong to them in a sustainable manner.
The SOLUTION IS THROUGH CHANGE IN MINDSETS OF THESE CORRUPT LEADERS.

Civil forfeiture in the United States, sometimes called civil judicial forfeiture,[1] is a controversial legal process in which police take assets from persons suspected of involvement with crime or illegal activity without necessarily charging the owners with wrongdoing. While civil procedure, as opposed to criminal procedure, generally involves a dispute between two private citizens, civil forfeiture involves a dispute between police and a thing such as a gold crucifix, a pile of cash, a house or sailboat, such that the thing is suspected of being involved in a crime. Police take the thing; to get it back, owners must prove that it was not involved in criminal activity. Sometimes it can mean a threat to seize property as well as the act of seizure itself.[2]
Proponents see civil forfeiture as a powerful tool to thwart criminal organizations involved in the illegal drug trade, with $12 billion annual profits,[3] since it allows authorities to seize cash and other assets resulting from narcotics trafficking. Proponents argue that it is an efficient method since it allows police to use these seized proceeds to further battle illegal activity, that is, directly converting bad things to good purposes by harming criminals economically while helping police financially. Critics complain that innocent citizens become entangled in the process such that their right to property is violated, with few legal protections and due process rules to protect them in situations where they are presumed guilty instead of being presumed innocent. Further, critics argue that the incentives lead to corruption and police misbehavior. There is consensus that abuses have happened but disagreement about their extent as well as whether the overall benefits to society are worth the cost of the instances of abuse.

If you are a public leader and part of your oath of allegiance says, you bring a curse upon you, you immediate or extended family members if you ever indulge in corruption in the delivery of government services....
you will definitely think twice before you carry out such an act.

Anything above 200 Cedis is not a business/work place gift but must be considered a bribe and should not be accepted. It is and becomes a conflict of interest. Here in the West, it is wrong and regarded as "facilitation payment" and no one is encouraged to allow it in their official transactions. Please stop taking bribes.
Not to say it does not happen here in the West, but when you are caught, the verdict is resignation or downright dismissal. No gift should be more than twice the cost your average lunch bill.
Laws should not only be on the books, they must be enforced for them to work.
