Teenage pregnancy is on the ascendancy in the Nabdam District of the Upper east region.

The frequency of these cases has left many stakeholders worried.

Forty-three BECE candidates who took part in this year’s exams were pregnant.

This figure is half the number of pregnant candidates in the entire region.

The District Chief Executive for the area Vivian Anarfo told Starr News the trend could forestall efforts being made to increase the enrollment of girls in school.

“Despite the fact that we have formed committees and clubs that teaches these girls on abstinence, they still go ahead and get pregnant.

“Last year, at the exams center I saw some pregnant. And when you go to the health center the babies are there pregnant; I call them babies because if you are 15 years and you get pregnant, you are still not an adult you are still a baby,” she stated.
