Kudos aikins, imagine a person who reside in Germany writing such a cheap article. I was thinking he would even advice the EC chairlady to go and learn from the Germans since it's shares land boarders with 9 countries,Germany has a ID card for her citizens which is pure for only Germans and nhis for their nationals and foreigners who have visa residencial permit but can't use it to
vote.it's baffles me lot why NDC are afraid for Ghanaians to have their personal identity card like the rest of the world even Togo,Burkina, Ivory coast all have ID's why.

Who is the loser and who benefits if NHIS names are deleted and those affected asked to re-register? Are the people who register with NHIS cards NDCi, NPP, CPP, PNC...? We don't know. So why is NDC and the EC against? Weird?

Because it was lawful as at the time those cards were used and the law doesn't take retrospective . In any case, what happens to many people who used the NHIA CARDS prior to the 2008 elections and subsequently used the voters ID acquired to re-register during the 2012 elections? Should their names be deleted too? Again, many who stood in for early voters as guarantors in the limited registration done recently used NHIA cards to register previously. Should those early voters' names too be deleted since the guarantors used "invalid" voters ID?
I just can't understand the NPP and their followers who were chanting "LET MY VOTE COUNT" some few months ago but are now doing everything possible to deny others their votes.

The Supreme Court should not poke its nose into the affairs if the Electoral Commission on behalf of any party. The EC is an independent body charged with responsibility of organising election and seeing to it that the electoral register is updated. Updating the voters register should be an ongoing exercise and not when there is an imminent elections. Please leave the EC alone and rather deals with the disgraceful behaviour of some of your number who were exposed recently for taking bribe - that is more worrying and destructive than anything else.

Very intelligent piece. I have observed for some time that the supreme court is becoming something else in this country and if we do not check it they can grow to become an albatross on our neck. npp seems to presumed the supreme court is supreme in this country simply because they play to their wishes. I found most pronouncements of our apex court of late to be highly sentimental than legalistic.is it not a shame that our apex court can ruled on an international contracts between the state and other entities that could not be used for international arbitration because it does not meet the international standard?.The supreme court judges should stop behaving like turkey bird which reacts to noise making by making the loudest noise. They should ashamed of themselves.

Olu you and Mensah probably have not read our 1992 constitution and if you have, you both do not comprehend the role and powers conferred by the constitution on the various branches and institutions created under the constitution?
The EC is granted independence in the performance of their role as established by the constitution but its actions and processes in the execution of its mandate cannot be unconstitutional. The constitution gives the Supreme Court the power to determine if EC actions and processes are constitutional based on citizen court actions . Then they can direct EC to submit to them action plans to resolve the disputed unconstitutional behavior. The 1992 constitution grants the SC powers to sanction the presidency and Paliament from acting unconstitutionally.'
All the talk about EC independence are fine but no branch or institution can act unconstitutionally.
Finally it is amusing why NDC sees sinister motives in the agitation for a credible register as only in the interest of the NPP? NPP lost the 2012 election court case?
Don't you all think it is better to resolve Electorial issues through the courts than in an environment of explosives and blood shed?
I Will always vote to go to court for resolution however imperfect.

The SC is beating a civil war drum . They are steping their bounds and doing everything possible to entrech their choice in Ghana as president. Have they thought of those who registered with a driving licence? Whose interest are they trying to serve? Mother Ghana or an individual? They should be very careful. Are they not doing all of these things because of the people of the Volta region? Ghana will turn upside down. We knew it long and we are preparing for it. Nobody will be the winner. They should mark it as they continue with their diabolical behaviour. Majority of us Ghanaians are ever ready to defend the constitution. We will not did down for a few stupid idiots to reverse the gains that have been painfully made to be eroded because somebody must by all means, be president of Kwame Nkrumah's, Ghana, even as the odds are clearly against him. There would be nobody left in Mother Ghana. They should be careful. waiting for my name to be deleted. I am bonifide and a true Ghanaian and nobody can disinfranchise me.

Anyone or group of people to be deprived of the right to universal adult suffrage have the right to appeal to the same Supreme Court of Ghana to review its own ruling sitting relevant U.N. Conventions that Ghana has signed to buttress their point.
It is a fact that it is only in capitalist counties that general elections become an avenue for printers and ID card producers to make money. In China, Cuba, North Korea and Vietnam the number of voters are determined by the number of citizens that have reached 18 years of age and are supplied with passport. Thus in those countries which are also one party communist party states there is no need to compile the names of voters, people do not go to make ques to register as voters, from the above precious man hours are not wasted by the citizen to go and register as a voter. Thus the right to universal adult suffrage is guaranteed to all. But in a capitalist country like ours even when a person does not like your face or the tribe you come from he can use that to deprive you of the right to universal adult suffrage.
Last week I took a look at four ID cards issued in Ghana and it was only driver license that have the nationality of the holder on it. The irony in the ruling that NHIS cards should not be used by a person to register as a voter we the gullible ones will like to ask has the court also ban the NHIS which is itself a creation of the 1992 Constitution.
