The NPP and Nana Akufo-Addo's thanksgiving service may be likened to the ancient Israelites' religious festivals mentioned in the book of the Prophet Amos. In this book, the Prophet describes how the people thronged the religious houses believing they were worshipping God and how the ruling Israelite elite were corrupt to the core. While the elite were getting richer and richer, the poor were getting poorer and poorer, because the former were oppressing the latter by exploiting them.
When one looks at Akufo-Addo and the NPP's track records, one sees the same or similar trend that the ancient Israelites exhibited. During the Kufuor-led administration, Ghanaians witnessed how the leadership of that party became very corrupt, for example, turning Ghana into a cocaine hub in the West African sub-region. Who will forget how cocaine seized on board the ship Benjamin in 2003 and deposited at the Ghana Police Headquarters under the Inspector-Generalship of an Asante man whose deputy was also an Asante, but the cocaine mysteriously disappeared, some of which were traced to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi? As a result of their corruption, the NPP leadership and the party itself instantly became filthy rich.
In the meantime, Kufuor was so pleased with the Supreme Court Justice, Georgina Theodora Wood, a card-carrying member of the NPP, who chaired the commission the President had appointed to investigate the disappearance of the cocaine that he promoted her over and above all her seniors to the position of Chief Justice. She announced to the whole world that the Commission's investigation was inconclusive, even though some of the cocaine appeared in the palace of the one who sits on the Sika Egua Kofi.
Both President Kufuor and Akufo-Addo lied to Ghanaians that they had trained in England as lawyers, but they've not been able up to today tell Ghanaians which legal institution trained them. All that Akufo-Addo is able to tell Ghanaians is that he passed through the Middle Temple in England, forgetting that one is not admitted to that reputable legal institution unless one obtains at least a 2nd Class Upper Division degree at the undergraduate level while he himself earned a mere 3rd Class degree at the University of Ghana. Then, to make matters worse for him, he lied again that his law certificate is missing. If his certificate is truly missing, can't he swear an affidavit and get a replacement from the institution that awarded it to him? Is that not the norm everywhere? Yet, Ghanaians are so gullible that they don't pressurise him for the truth.
From this alone, it is clear that Akufo-Addo has only been lying to Ghanaians but he has succeeded in practicing law in Ghana for more than 40 years and even served as Minister of Justice & Attorney-General and Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Kufuor administration. And now he has become President-elect!!! O, poor Ghana!!!
As for President Kufuor, although he falsely claims to be a lawyer, he hasn't made the attempt, like Akufo-Addo, to be called to the Bar in Ghana; he hasn't registered with the Ghana Legal Council; nor has he ever practised law in Ghana. He gave the impression that he studied law at Oxford University, but this institution wrote to Ghana's Parliament at the beginning of his administration that he did attend Oxford but that he studied Philosophy, History and Economics and not law. So, the question is, where did he study law? Kufuor's problem is that he too has lied to Ghanaians and has been corrupt to the core. This is the main reason why he was denied the Mo Ibrahim Achievement Award when he ended his term of office as Ghana's President.
Now back to the thanksgiving service. Akufo-Addo's mantra has been, 'The Battle is the Lord's'. While he is corrupt, he wants Ghanaians to believe that it's God who has fought for him to win the presidency. But I can assure the reader that he's mentioning the Lord's name in vain. For that reason, the Lord must be speaking to him right now through the Prophet Amos, especially with regard to his so-called thanksgiving service:
'I hate, I despise your religious feasts; I cannot stand your assemblies. Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them. Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. But let justice roll like a river, righteousness like a never failing stream!' (Amos 5: 21 - 24).
As for the so-called men of God who have chosen to ignore all Akufo-Addo's corruption and to support him regardless, because of fame and material gain, the Lord will surely deal with them in His own time. How come these men of God can see that Akufo-Addo would win the election but can't see his corruption, especially the fact that he has successfully lied to Ghanaians all these years that he's a lawyer but he's not?
Since the truth hurts, I know that after reading this piece, some uncivilised readers are going to jump on me, singing their national anthem which is replete with bush, uncouth language like, 'fool','bull', 'idiot', 'stupid', 'kwasia', 'aboa', and the like. Such people, because of their incivility and deep ignorant, no matter how highly educated, do not understand that it's the issues that are discussed and not just throwing about this kind of dirty language. But I don't care; they may go ahead and exhibit the kind of the primitive home in which they were raised.
