Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Reverend Jonathan Bettey has said that the decision by government to return the power of supervision of mission schools to religious bodies does not relieve it from taking charge of putting modalities in place to make education accessible in the country.

The PRO said this on class FM’s Breakfast show yesterday.

According to him, since mission schools do not take it kindly on the aspects of discipline and moral values in schools, it was an avenue for its management to lay out rules to improve them in various schools.

He noted that the Christian Council was hopeful that government will lay out modalities which will allow the mission schools to be part of decision making.

On the matter of the posting of school heads, the PRO said it was not up to the mission schools as to whether heads of schools will be in tune with the values and morals of the schools.

However, he said it was premature for GES to make any assumptions since the announcement by government has just been made.

Meanwhile, General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), Reverend Dr Kwabena Opuni Frimpong has welcomed the news since the council had long waited for government to make such decision.

The Minister of Education at the just ended national policy summit held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) revealed that  government will soon  return supervision of mission schools to religious bodies.
