Free SHS has averted Streetism – Group

In April-May 2020 when this first batch of free SHS students write their WASSCE, the results will have justified the true nature of the policy because instead of providing a cut-off point at say, aggregate 36, all manner of students are being admitted with very horrible grades of above 50. If at the end most of these students could not pass their WASSCE, will that not create streetism dominated by young adults who would be more frustrated and become more dangerous to society than these naive-looking JHS graduates? To me, the government should have heavily subsidized tertiary education and allow parents to pay for secondary education so that a great number of SHS graduates can enter tertiary educational institutions bacuse that is where the labour force of the country is trained.
For the allowances of teacher trainees, I think the NDC did not educate Ghanaians very well because all Colleges of Education have been upgraded to tertiary (diploma warding) institution and by law, should not enjoy allowance. Come to think of this:
Legon and other universities are tertiary institution where students do not enjoy free accommodation but students of Colleges of Education enjoy free accommodation. University graduates do not have the luxury of ready jobs after completing school; they must apply for jobs but students of Colleges of Education have ready jobs as teachers on government payroll when they complete school. University students are not fed; they feed themselves but students of colleges of education are fed thrice a day and take allowances every month, yet we call them tertiary students. Please is this fair?
I am using this platform to call on all categories of tertiary(university) students to demand allowances, either for feeding or for accommodation. We are all Ghanaians. Students in colleges of education should take student loans or SSNIT loans and start paying back immediately they start receiving salaries. Paying allowances to teacher-trainees is a misplaced priority.
