Dr Letsa bemoans poor performance of assemblies in Volta

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, has bemoaned the poor performance of assemblies in his region which he said resulted in the Volta Region being rated the least performing region in 2016.

According to the 2016 UNICEF District League Table, the Volta Region had a “Regional Average Score” of 54 therefore placing 10th among its peers.

With this backdrop, Dr Letsa, charged local government workers at the various assemblies to buckle up and improve their performance to enable districts is the region win spots among the first 10 best performing districts within the coming years.

He said this when addressing separate assembly gatherings of local government staffs and assembly members during a 3-day working tour of the northern Volta Region.

Dr Letsa asserted that “our assemblies in Volta Region have not been performing well... Our best district on the 2016 District League Table was number 52 and we cemented the bottom, number 216 was from Volta region, North Tognu.”

“But I believe under my leadership and with your support, the Volta region will do better. So I want all of us to wake up and corporate so that we can achieve greater heights”, he opined.

Dr Letsa, however, warned that any local government worker identified to be be sabotaging leadership of their respective assemblies would be dealt with.

He also announced that Nkwanta South, Ketu North, Krachi East and West Districts would be elevated to municipalities as plans are advanced towards creating the proposed Oti Region in northern Volta.

Dr Letsa’s tour was aimed to solicit support from chiefs and residents towards the successful implementation of government’s policies and programmes.

He was accompanied by the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Maxwell Blagodzi, newly posted Volta Regional Director of Health Services, Theodore Letsa and other developmental heads.
