The Ghana Police Service has condemned the actions of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, who recently threatened a police commander.

The Assin Central MP was in the news after he clashed with the Central Regional Police Commander during a demonstration by students of the University of Education, Winneba.

The legislator, who is known for his outspoken and confrontational nature, was involved in a heated exchange with a police chief.

In a 20-second video that has gone viral on social media, the maverick MP is seen confronting the officer while hurling threats at him.

Mr. Agyapong is reported to have threatened the officer that he would make sure the officer is dismissed from the police service.

However, a statement from the Police Administration condemned the lawmaker’s actions towards the police commander.

The statement said Mr. Agyapong has no authority whatsoever to dismiss any police officer discharging his lawful duties. Below is a video of the incident posted on Facebook.

“The Police Administration therefore takes a strong exception to the behaviour of Mr. Kennedy Agyapong who is a Member of Parliament and advises him to be mindful of his actions towards police officers whilst performing their lawful duties,” sections of the statement reads. It added: “Meanwhile, the Police Administration wishes to once again assure all police officers that it will stand by them at all time provided their conduct is professional and lawful.”
