Kumasi, July 6, GNA--Three persons have been arrested by the Kumasi Police and a fourth is on the run, in connection with an alleged attempted sale of human blood at Anloga, in Kumasi last Saturday.

They are, one Nani, a 22-year-old mason and Madawo Abofra, 22, a fetish priest both from Afiadenyigba, in the Volta Region, and Kwame Duakpor, son of a fetish priest based at Papito village, near Nsawam, in the Eastern Region. Kwame Fiawoo, 42, a photographer at Anloga, Kumasi, is on the run.

Briefing newsmen in Kumasi on Tuesday, Mr Yaw Adu-Gyimah, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, said the Police upon a tip-off last Saturday, detailed some plain-clothed Policemen, led by Detective Inspector Richmond Yeboah, to pose as businessmen ready to buy human blood.

He said the Policemen met Nani and Abofra and during negotiations Abofra told them that Nani came from Accra with human blood in two Fanta bottles for sale at 20 million cedis each.

The Police Commander said they bargained and the suspects agreed to sell the blood for one million cedis each. When they were asked to bring them Nani said the blood was in Accra and they were arrested.

Mr Adu-Gyimah said during investigations, Nani led the Police to a cottage called Papito about 200 metres from the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) barrier on the Nsawam-Accra road.

When the police got there the cottage was deserted. He said the Police conducted a search near a shrine at the cottage and found the two bottles containing the blood and some human bones.

He said Nani further led them to a farm near the cottage, where the Police found the corpse a male adult covered with leaves.

Mr Adu-Gyimah said Nani told the Police that his father, Kwasi Duakpor also known as Yevuga, is a fetish priest of the Papito cottage and he sent him together with Kwame Duakpor to Kumasi to look for prospective blood buyers.

Nani told the Police that during their contacts they met Kwame Fiawoo, who expressed interest in the human blood.

Mr Adu-Gyimah said all the suspects would be handed over to the Nsawam Police to continue with the investigations.

Meanwhile the body of the unidentified adult male has been sent to the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital for autopsy.
