A viral video on social media has showed how civilians helped save the life of an alleged mentally ill man who was being shot at by personnel of the Ghana Police Service for attacking them.

The unidentified civilians were captured in the video subduing the attacker who was holding an unidentified weapon. They could be heard pleading with the armed police team to stop shooting.

The suspected mentally ill man is reported to have invaded the premises of a bank with a weapon in his hand before the police were called.

Announcing his presence with a megaphone at the unknown bank, he is heard saying, “I am here, are you ready?”.

In the two-minute footage, the scruffy-looking man was approached by the policeman who asked him to retreat and drop whatever he was holding.

Despite the warning given by the gun-wielding security officer, the supposed mad man daringly drew closer.

The police officer seemingly sensing danger gave a warning shot on the ground which resulted in a hot chase by the suspect.

The two were engaged in a wrestle which caused other officers around to give several warning shots.

People standing by could be heard pleading with the police not to shoot the supposed madman. He was later handed over to the officers.
