Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has endorsed C.K Akonnor as head Coach of the Black Stars and ants him to continue in the role for the long term.
Akonnor was appointed as Akwasi Appiah's replacement earlier this year with the former captain only serving as helmsman for the past 4-5 months.
He is yet to take charge of his full match after the CoronaVirus pandemic triggered the shutdown of all football activities.
In a football country like Ghana, where expectations are high, many have doubted the ability of the C.K. Akonnor to achieve what the national team has failed to do since 1982. These doubters cite his inexperience at such a stage as basis for their incertitude.
However, Laryea Kingston who has taken to coaching after his playing days believes Akonnor who has had stints with local clubs like Heart of oak, Asante Kotoko, Ashgold and Dreams FC is very much capable of chalking success with the Black Stars.
He told Joy Sports, “(CK) has what takes. I think he is a good choice. He played for and captained the national team. He has been in the shoes before”.
Kingston’s trust in Akonnor’s capabilities is such a firm that he wants the national team to be given him for the long term.
“I hope Ghana gives him a long term contract”, he concluded.
