Gunmen in South Sudan’s Jonglei State wounded one person when they attacked a humanitarian convoy last week, a local official said.

Deng Achiek Jok, the commissioner of Duk Payuel County, told Radio Tamazuj that unknown gunmen wounded an aid worker when they attacked a humanitarian convoy between Panyagoor and Poktap areas last Wednesday.

“The attack occurred at around 11 am. The convoy of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) was coming to Duk Payuel for a needs-assessment mission. So, the aid workers were attacked on the way, one person sustained gunshot wounds,” he said.

He added, “The attackers looted money and belongings of the staff”.

The local official pointed out that no arrests were made in connection with the incident.

The Lutheran World Federation could not immediately be reached for comment.

Attacks against aid workers and aid operations have been a common occurrence since the conflict broke out in December 2013.

At least 115 aid workers – most of them South Sudanese – have been killed since the start of the conflict in 2013.
