The Chairmanship of Ecowas or AU is NOT for an individual but the Nation
Whoever is the Head of State at that material time becomes the Chairman

The particular Nation is already PREARRANGED by a formula

Ballots are not cast but rather by ACCLAMATION

That is why Tinubu, without any experience in Diplomacy or International Relations, became Chairman of Ecowas

The coup in Mali took place before Tinubu became President of Nigeria.
Since it was the turn of Nigeria, he assumed the Chairmanship. The issue of the Mali coup was being handled with finesse
His belligerent nature, and inability to understand the Ecowas Treaty, eventually leading to three out of fifteen Members leaving Ecowas

By the AU CHATTER and Ecowas Treaty, the Chairmanship of AU or ECOWAS exudes no personal or individual Authority
It is the COLLECTIVE AUTHORITY of the Heads of States
with the Executive Power of Implementation being exercised by the Secretary General of AU and the President (Executive Secretary) of Ecowas.

This position of AU Chairman is for 4 Years. If Mahama plans to leave power in 2028 why would he take up a position which term ends 2yrs after your end of office in 2028.

The best country in ECOWAS which should have got this position is Senegal whose Leader after their 2026 Elections can still run through till 2031

This is a clear sign that Mahama is planning to stay on beyond 2028 otherwise why take up this post!
