The disabled Athletes who fall under a different management than Prof Dodoo have received no help or any encouragement and have to fend for themselves - corporate bodies need to be encouraged to donate or sponsor as currently very little is being given to sports to make a difference

Sammy Heywood Okine is attributing the sub-standards in the sport of track and field to the absence of a tartan track at the Accra Sports Stadium. To contrary, track and field is a dying sport in Ghana because of the lack of commitment from sports officials to develop the sport. Ghana lacks a national agenda to track and train athletes who have the talent to become track and field athletes. There should be numerous levels of competitions from high schools to the universities. The sports officials should seek out corporate sponsorships in hosting these competitions. As the writer mentioned, Essipong, Tamale, Kumasi and El Wak all have tracks, except Accra. While Accra Sports Stadium has no tracks, track and field athletes can still train at El Wak Stadium.

Everything in Ghana seems t be commercialized and coaches and teachers are all looking for money. Yes I was in Tamale and visited the stadium once. I saw an athlete trying some shot putting. It was a miserable sight, he was poorly equipped, his technique was not good but he claimed he was the best at the SHS level. I talked to him and he said he had no coach and had to train on his own. How can something with such motivation without a coach do well?
Gone are the days when sports masters in Tamale loved to help their athletes. They trained at Tamasco, Ghanasco, Bisco, T-Poly and Batco. Though there were no permanent in any of the schools or at Kaladan getting out training was a novelty. Even at the elementary school level the sports division of the District Education Office was well organized and motivated the pupils to train and compete.
As I understand, today all of the SHS and the Colleges of Education in Tamale each has more than two sports masters. So what are they doing that with the modern facility at the stadium that Northern Region should do well? Poor organization is the cause.

In the first place, he is a very greedy person especially, when it comes to money with his partner in crime Andrew Owusu. These two, as I know them, in major games will bring their grocery list to collect unspecified amount of money as a expenditure from the GOC during the Olympic Games. I know them very well.

Ghana officials have been corrupt since the birth of the country.
Track and Field is dying in Ghana not because of Digo and Bobby. It's because our officers has decided to chose other sports like Soccer over Track & Field. Also, we don't have the same high school interest and systems in place. I don't by having tartar at the Accra sports stadium will resurrect Track & Field. We need to change the mind at the high school level and let them believe that they can still get scholarships to US Colleges like Timo and others did.
Andrew, Francis and Me thought about even using our own funds to sponsor at least one track & field event a year in Kumasi. But, we can only do so much. Andrew and Francis organized the Ghana Grand Prix in 2012.
So, please get your facts straight before muddying good Ghanaian citizens name in the media.

The funny part of your piece suggesting that Dodoo and Andrew at one point, they were prepared to use their own pocket money to sponsor at least one Track & Field event in Kumasi once a year, good try Nimdee2k, these two guys are very, very cheap and tight with their money. They are always finding ways to dupe the Sports Authority, and I want to let you know that I know them very well as a fellow member of national Olympic team for motherland Ghana.

short sightedness and naivete killed it. all attention diverted to football. meanwhile ghana is not producing any world class footballers of late hence our abysmal performance in football . upon all the obsession with football we have not won a trophy in close to 35 years. our players are mediocre struggling to find playing time in south africa, ukraine, belgium, and second division leagues in europe. while if close to half of the that devotion is given to sprinting we could compete very well with the best. instead u are selecting below average half bake footballers hoping to win a tournament..Good luck with that
