3 Ghanaian musicians who ‘bagged’ major international awards in 2019

A number of Ghanaian musicians gained international recognition for their immense contribution to the world of music.

From winning awards like U.S based "Billboard Music Awards" which checks chart performance, downloads and airplay, to “People's Choice Awards”, an American awards show recognizing the work of popular artists.

Some have also earned for themselves, major BET nominations which seek to celebrate African Americans in music and other fields of entertainment annually.

Here’s a list of Ghanaian musicians who have won some of these prestigious awards in 2019

Sarkodie

With the latest award for Best International Flow this year, the SarkCess Music label boss has won two out of four BET Awards nods so far. Sarkodie became the first local Ghanaian rapper to win a BET award in 2012.



Stonebwoy



The Reggae/Dancehall musician this year won the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards for 2019, best Dancehall artiste of the year at the 2019 AFRIMA for the 3rd time and a Billboard recognition for his contribution to Sizzla Kalonji’s 2017 Album.

Shatta Wale



He nabbed two awards at the 2019 International Reggae and World Music Awards. Shatta swept away the ‘Afrobeats of the Year’ and ‘Best Music Video’ for his song ‘Gringo.’

He was also honored for an outstanding contribution to Reggae in Ghana and globally.
