A-Plus writes a letter to Parliament

A-Plus has certainly carved a great niche for himself in the Ghanaian music scene with his unique style of rap and approach to relevant issues. It’s amazing the courage this young chap mustered to bring out the flaws in our socio-political system through the arts.

He remains the only Hiplife artist who is able to condemn or praise Ghana’s political leadership for their actions or inactions. A-Plus has kept to this line with consistency and focus.

A letter to Parliament is his latest effort at revealing the ‘unrevealed’ in the Ghanaian socio-political system through music. A letter to Parliament focused mainly on the Ghana at fifty celebrations.

In the song, A-plus advised the Ghana @ 50 Secretariat to set aside a day of national mourning since Ghana is still rationing power and importing basic items like tooth pick after all these years.

“You’ve not paid your child’s school fees but have the funds to buy him a cow on his birthday,” A-Plus says in the song.

He didn’t forget to give the opposition its share of the criticism. Like a two edged sword, his lyrics cut through all the wrongs in the system without apology. A letter to Parliament is a song to listen to and learn from. What a good record of history!

Do you remember the story of two paddies follow one girl? It’s one of the songs on the promo CD and it talks about two paddies losing a girl after a fight over her.

This can be termed a love song from A-Plus. It may not be receiving massive airplay on radio but the humour in the song could make one fall for it after listening. “Two paddies follow one girl, they fought over her but the girl shun dem all,” says the song.

Mirror Mirror is the last but not the least song on the promo CD. It was nominated pop song of the year in this year’s Ghana Music Awards. “You’re the queen of Sheba, I’m the king of the tribe of Judah, you’re my baby girl, my African girl,” says the song.

A-Plus has proven over the years how focused he is. We’re waiting on the full album so we can have a full feel of one of Ghana’s most controversial Hiplife artists.
