Ghana Union In Edinburgh Fete Rawlings

The Ghana Union in Edinburgh and Glassgow has held a reception in honour of President Rawlings and the First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings in Edinburgh. The President told the gathering that Ghanaians are calling for a mission minded leadership and that is why the govt. has taken it upon itself to set a high standard of integrity. He said Ghana is up and on the move. It has therefore become the responsibility of each and every citizen to play his or her role fully to move the nation ahead. President Rawlings impressed upon Ghanaians in Edinburgh and Glassgow that they also have a part to play in the national development effort. The First Lady also briefed the gathering on activities of the 31st December Women's Movement (DWN). She told them of the immense interest the movement has in the education of children especially the girl child, hence the establishment of 1,000 Day Care Centres which also help in child immunization and nutrition. Nana Konadu said one other mission of the DWN is to get women at the fore front of political activity in Ghana. The Ghana High Commissioner to the UK., Mr.. J.K. Aggrey-Orleans urged Ghanaians in the UK. to consider themselves as a family, which is a great country to be proud of . The Ghanaian community expressed their delight at the prevailing peace and stability in Ghana as well as the appreciable economic growth being experienced and extended their congratulations and gratitude to the govt. for its wonderful work.
