Accra (Greater Accra), 23 April, Ghana's imports from South Africa has increased from 13 million dollars to 79 million dollars within four years. Mr. Philip Riley, acting South African High Commissioner said in Accra today. Launching this year's South African week celebrations at the Labadi Beach Hotel, Mr. Riley noted that the figures were skewed in favour of his country and urged Ghanaian manufactures and exporters to be more aggressive in pursuing new markets in South Africa. Trade between Ghana and South Africa took an upswing after the coming into power of Nelson Mandela in 1994. Although Ghana sells timber and timber product handicrafts and textiles, it is on a small scale. The acting High Commissioner announced that a 50-man trade delegation to be led by Mr. Alee Owens, Minister of Trade and Industry, will visit Ghana from June 20 to 24 to explore more trade and investment opportunities. He noted that relations between the two countries is on the increase judging from the number of official and other delegations visiting Ghana. South African cuisine and wines will be introduced to the public during the week, which is being sponsored by Cape Trading Company and South African Airways.
