Preparations are far underway to stage one of the biggest peace campaign musical concerts in Ghana this September.
The event dubbed: ?Celebration of Peace? is featuring over fifty young African artistes and performers from sister countries to promote the aims and objectives establishing the African Union to bring peace and prosperity to its people.
It is to mark both Africa Union Day (May 25) and the United Nations International Peace Day (September 21).
The maiden event, according to the event director, Kwame Akpo of Cross Borders international, is to serve as platform to call on all Africans, especially the youth, to see the need for peace to develop their beloved continent.
?The 21st century has come to meet them and must not be wasted away. The is the time for all Africans to wake up to face the reality of today,? the event director, added.
Currently, the organisers are putting up a dinner dance to be held at the State Banquet Hall in Accra on September 3, to raise funds to stage the 10-day event scheduled to run from September 15-26.
Unlike other musical events, where singing and dancing is the norm, the organisers have other humanitarian projects on boards to support their brothers and sisters, the major being the building of a Knowledge and Learning/ICT Centre in all sisters states to promote the values and prospects of the continent.
Some of the expected artistes to perform are the Magic Systems from Ivory Coast, Tony Tetuilla from Nigeria, Gidi Gidi Magi Magi from Kenya.
Others are from Libya, Ethiopia, Egypt, South Africa and Algeria. On the Ghanaian list are Lord Kenya, Mzbel, Rex Omar, Batman and many others. Arrangements are being made to get the Liberia football superstar, Oppong Weah, who doubles as a footballer and musician to lead the Liberian squad.
It is heart warming to note that, for the first time in the history of the continent, the youth have seen the wisdom to drop arms and ammunitions to promote peace.
This is a laudable venture to be supported by all stakeholders and peace loving people to enable the Africa Union to realize its dream, because a country engulfed in violence and conflicts cannot be see any thriving business and development.
As it were, sponsors and donors contacted will not only be helping to promote an event but also bringing the olive branch to all troubled homes.
The sector minister, Honourable Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, must be commended for acknowledging a very important event of this kind, especially at this time of the country?s on coming parliamentary and presidential election during which peace will most cherished.
