Australia-based Ghanaian star, Afro Moses, will on Friday December 9 rock the Alliance Française in Accra with a dramatic blend of rhythms from diverse parts of the world.

The concert, which forms part of activities marking the 3rd anniversary of New Music Ghana, will also feature two young groups, Royal Echoes from the Volta regional capital Ho and Bigshot Band, a group based at the Music Department, University of Ghana.

Formerly based in Denmark, Moses has captivated and hypnotized fans in several countries in Europe, the United States, the Gulf and other parts of Africa with a subtle musical approach that stands at the interface of tradition and modernity.

He became famous in the 1980s with hit tracks such as Makola and has relentlessly pursued his career since he relocated to Europe and later Australia over two decades ago.

A multi-award winner, composer, multi instrumentalist and music teacher, Moses has in recent times been working with kids. He has organized workshops for kids in Australia, Denmark, Bahrain and Ghana, where he performed for inmates of the Osu Children’s Home.

Royal Echoes and Bigshot bands are youthful groups that participated in the New Music Ghana competition, which aims at empowering young musicians while encouraging them to use local musical resources in their compositions.

Sponsored by the Danish Centre for Culture and Development, the project has received wide acclaim in the country and has successfully toured two bands in Southern Africa and Europe while providing recording contracts and mentors for them.

New Music Ghana/Arterial Network Ghana, in collaboration with the Alliance Française and the French Embassy in Accra, are organizing the programme, which is also in honour of the late mother of Moses.
