A group calling itself friends of Asamoah Gyan yesterday vowed to teach hip-life star Barima Sydney a bitter lesson unless he apologizes to Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan.

Yopoo, who was infuriated, said he was the spokesperson of the Asamoah Gyan group. He told News-One that Sidney’s ‘Awuche Kpongor’ track was an insult directed at Asamoah Gyan and that the artiste released the song just to run down the footballer. Yopoo alleged further that ‘Kpongor Kpongor’ was a very rude insult and that Sidney deliberately sidelined Asamoah-Gyan in the song’s video clip.

Though Yopoo would not explain what ‘Kpongor-Kpongor’ meant, he said Sidney portrayed Asamoah-Gyan as a glutton who could not score a penalty kick. The group complained further that Sidney had featured several celebrities including Emmanuel Adebayor of Togo in the ‘Kpongor’ video clip but chose to use a little girl who was eating to replace the portion that Asamoah-Gyan was expected to feature.

Sidney, when contacted by News-One over the allegation, said this was the second time he had heard about the group and their complaints. Barima Sidney explained: “Why would I save money to do a song just to insult Asamoah-Gyan? It does not make sense and I suspect this group is up to something else and they should make their mission clear.

Kpongor is the name of a dance in Togo and you would see people doing the thumbs-up sign in the dance, I used the term because I also wanted to send a message that we are in an era where we change governments with the thumb and not guns.

“On why I did not use Asamoah Gyan in the video, you may not believe me but I did my best. Asamoah-Gyan is not my friend per say but we talk. When we were in Italy, we often talked on phone but in Ghana we hardly meet. I tried to reach him for the video; I spoke to Castro several times about it but I just couldn’t get him so I went ahead.” Sidney explained that he was available and if any group had a problem with his song, it should contact him rather than go to the media.
