Tema (Greater Accra) 28 Oct '98 A seven-member Chinese delegation currently studying the operations of the Ghana Police Service yesterday visited selected police stations in the Tema police district. The delegation, led by Mr Lu Bin, deputy director-general of police in China, visited Harbour, Afienya and Dodowa police stations and later met the chiefs of Dodowa. Briefing the delegation, Mr Mohammed Alhassan, Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Tema, said Tema, as an industrial city, records about 300 to 400 stealing cases monthly. As crime preventive measures, the police carry out patrol duties in the industrial areas and in the communities. In the rural areas, Mr Alhassan said the police depend on chiefs to get their suspects since they are directly involved with the people. "We encourage the formation of neighbourhood watch-dog committees in the communities to help crime prevention.. At a meeting with chiefs, Mr Kofi K. Manfo, Assistant Commissioner of Police who accompanied the delegation, said although the police have inadequate logistics, they manage to control the situation. He asked the public to cooperate with the police to provide security. The delegation, which leaves the country on October 28, has also visited the Cape Coast Castle and the Akosombo dam.
