To help alleviate the plight of its numerous members, the Ashanti Regional branch of the Musicians Union of Ghana has launched a ? 1 billion fund.
The fund according to the Regional chairman, Professor Kofi Abraham would be used to undertake various projects to support the welfare of musicians in particular and society in general.
Part of the amount, if realized, would be used to purchase a set of musical instruments, which would be used to perform at functions to generate income for the association. An insurance scheme is also expected to instituted for members, soft loans granted them when the need arises and to contribute to the Otumfuo Education Fund.
Finally, Professor Abraham advised musicians to avoid releasing profane or sexually suggestive songs so as to gain society's respect and recognition.
