The Police on Thursday confirmed a Ghana News Agency (GNA) story that the driver of the car allegedly used in the sensational highway gold robbery has been detained. A statement issued in Accra on Thursday, by the Police Public Relations Directorate, said 13 people, including the driver, the owner of the vehicle,GR 3810 F and 11 others have been placed in custody and are helping in police investigations. GNA reported that the vehicle was parked at the Elubo-Aflao Station at Elubo on the Ghana-Cote d'Ivoire border. "The Police Administration appeals to the general public, especially those who witnessed the robbery, to contact the Commissioner of Police/CID, Police Headquarters, to offer whatever information they have to facilitate investigations.

West Coast Allied Services (WCAS), the security company whose personnel were escorting the bullion van with the gold mined by Resolute Amansie Limited, said eight heavily armed men robbed them of the yellow metal on February 16 at Gomoa Abotsia, near Apam Junction. The gold, which was being sent to Kotoka International Airport to be sent to London, is worth more than one million dollars. The statement said the Police are, meanwhile, requesting eight former employees of WCAS to report to the Commissioner of Police, CID, at the Police Headquarters immediately. They are Mr Alex Biney of Kasoa, Mr Jonathan Tumfour Berger of Haatso, Mr Isaac Frimpong of Konongo, Mr Joseph Mensah Anane, alias Joe of Alhaji, of Accra and Mr Francis Oscar Nkrumah of Abeka, Accra. Others being asked to report are Mr Felix Kudaya of Labadi, Accra, Mr Philip Asamoah of Tema and Mr Godfred Amoako of Awoshie, Accra. "Anyone who knows any of these persons should contact the Commissioner of Police, CID, or the nearest Police Station for assistance".
