The sensational gospel music icon, Cwesi Oteng, has announced that all is set for the release of his new singles this September.
The ‘God Dey Bless Me’ hit singer made this known on the Accra-based radio station, Hitz FM, a few days ago when he was hosted by Lexis Bill on the station’s flagship morning programme.
“I know fans have been calling for the album for a long time now since 2010 when I released the first single ‘Mercy,’ off the album. But it has been my team’s plan to record the album over a long period in order to lay our foundation right.
“God being so good, ‘God Dey Bless Me’ has propelled us onto the heights we expected and everyone is looking out for my next release or the album. The good news therefore is that everything right now points to September 30 at the Conference Centre,” Cwesi revealed.
The new singles, when released, would add up to a total of four songs released from Cwesi’s upcoming ‘Mercy Project’ album scheduled for release on September 30.
The album has a centralized theme of God’s mercy relayed through sub themes such God’s love, salvation, goodness, blessings and favour carried on creative fusions of rhythms from Afropop, R&B, highlife, soft rock, hip-praise and jazz. The ‘Mercy Project’ album was expected to break barriers and establish Cwesi among the foremost gospel artistes and brands from Africa.
When released, music critics who have put Cwesi in a box with tags that described him as a gospel hip-hop artiste, gospel rock start or gospel R&B singer, would be proved wrong as Cwesi’s versatility was creatively presented to the fore in the two singles which were recorded live in the studio with instrumentation and background vocals from his music team, Flo’Riva Incorporated, under his directions.
Cwesi Oteng’s ‘Mercy Project’ was one of the most anticipated albums of the year. The first prelude single off the album, ‘Mercy (But for Your Mercy)’ released in 2010 and its video later that year, have earned Cwesi massive recognition and raked in many awards including Best Gospel Video at the 2011 4Syte MVA and Best Lyrics for 2011 Most Wanted Song at the Contemporary Gospel Music Awards.
The second single, ‘God Dey Bless Me’, was currently a radio hit all over Ghana breaking barriers for gospel music from Ghana on many African platforms.
This has resulted in its video winning Africa’s Video of the Year at the 2012 Africa Gospel Music Awards recently. ‘Kabiyesi’ and ‘Love Me So’ were the next big tunes from Cwesi before he released his ‘Mercy Project’ album in a grand concert in September.
