The Hiplife music scene is getting exciting each moment as more talented rappers keep emerging to give the youthful genre brighter prospects.
These young artistes are talented because their raw sense and skill in poetry are amazing, especially when they are known to have had absolutely no formal training in the use of figurative language and exceptional rhyming from any literature classroom.
The freshest talent to join the hiplife train is Emmanuel Mensah aka Gbooftee. According to the 24-year-old up and coming rapper, the name Gbooftee was given to him due to his physical structure as he is somewhat weighty.
His maiden album, ‘Get Smart’, is an eight-track album which brings out the best of him in terms of rap; a skill he said he acquired way back in his Junior High School days at Kings’ College in Kokomlele.
The title track is a testimony of the poetic skills of Gbooftee as he churns out a danceable piece with good instrumentation on this particular song. ‘Twi Pop’ is another serious song with good but funny lyrics as the artiste rhymes his way into the hearts of hiplife lovers, giving them a reason to cherish the genre.
The amazing feature about Gbooftee is his ability to audibly rhyme and churn out meaningful and literarily-rich lyrics amidst simple but good beats which have been neatly programmed.
Not only does he rap, but the young lad has a good voice for singing as is proven on other tracks on the album. Emmanuel Mensah, who has a diploma in Software and Hardware from Towers Computer School, hails from Ho in the Volta Region and is the fourth of six children born to Mr. Kojo Mensah and Judith Kalefe.
He is currently a businessman who deals in clothing but confesses that music is his first love and he would never desert it. Other tracks on the album are ‘Taste’, ‘Best I Ever Had’, ‘Turn Me On’, ‘Hemo Oduna Oye’, ‘Miawezor’ and ‘Wodo Me?’
