On the 10th of March next year history will be made at the Independence Square in Accra. The occasion will be the biggest luncheon in the history of the nation and it is billed to coincide with the Ghana@50 celebrations. Those putting it together want the luncheon to be remembered for at least 50 years after it has taken place.
Dubbed ?Ghana as one?, the luncheon is expected to seat about four thousand Ghanaians from all walks of life (and from different parts of the world) to celebrate the country?s independence anniversary and honour Ghanaians who have excelled in their various fields of endeavour. It would also provide a platform for young entrepreneurs to interact with professionals about career prospects and business opportunities.
Organisers say those who will attend will be expected to show up clad in their traditional kente cloth and rich traditional ornaments and jewelry. The essence of this is to try to replicate the patriotism that greeted the birth of independent Ghana some 50 years ago.
The major organisers of the luncheon, AGOO Magazine and Joy FM, in association with the Ghana@50 Secretariat are very upbeat about the success of the event. They are also very optimistic that the event will unite Ghanaians.
On the day, a four-course meal will be served by the four most prestigious hotels in the country - La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, Labadi Beach Hotel, Golden Tulip Hotel and Novotel Hotel.
Entertainment for the afternoon will be provided by the National Symphony Orchestra, the Winneba Youth Choir, the Ghana Dance Ensemble and some local highlife musicians. There will also be a fashion show by some of Ghana?s top designers.
