Ghana Music Awards continues tomorrow

Tomorrow, a big musical jam will climax this year’s Ghana Music Award festival at the La Pleasure Beach, Accra, where one of New York’s best rappers, Jah Rule, is expected to invigorate thousands of music lovers.

All the award winners of this year’s event are expected to show off that they indeed deserve the awards.

Jah Rule, the multi-Grammy Awards nominee touched down at the Kotoka International Airport yesterday morning and he is poised to give a spectacular musical performance.

“Oh man, you got to see me perform! I’m one of the best rap performers there is and if you haven’t seen my show, you haven’t seen anything yet,” he told Joy News immedidiately he arrived in Ghana.

The multi-talented musician is performing alongside some of Ghana’s best, plus others in the sub-region, including the loveable stage performers P-Square from Nigeria and Nameless from Kenya.

A line-up of the local artistes includes ‘Abodam’ Kwaw Kesse, the must-be-tired-of-awards duo of Ofori Amponsah and Batman Samini, silky voices Becca and Kwabena Kwabena, non-conformist Shasha Marley of ‘Mata Mata’ fame and the gospel stars, Ohemaa Mercy, Lenny Akpadie, and Cee.

The ninth MTN Ghana Music Awards Festival, organised by Charter House Productions took off on Wednesday night with the presentation of five awards to deserving players and institutions in the industry for their outstanding works in 2007.

Kwabena Yamoah, received one of the meritorious award for his popular old hit song “Serwaa Akoto.” He has to his credit more than 100 songs.

Chemphe was given the best lyricist of the year award for his song “Why you dey treat am bad?” which seeks to highlight violence against women, while Osei Tutu,a trumpeter was given the instrumentalist of the year award.

The rest are: Record label for the year which went to Mad Time Entertainment, owned by the hip-life artiste Kwao Kesse, while the music video director of the year went to Solid Productions. The award was won with Kwao Kesse’s “Woye Woa Wose Mmaa Pe Wo” .The traditional artistes of the year went to Okele Boni, a cultural group from the Eastern Region.

Each of the award winners were given a trophy, cash prize and a hamper from MTN.

The event which was attended by the players in the industry was filled with musical performance from No Tribe, Adane Best and Michael Dwamena backed by the Sappers Band.
