Ghana Music.com’s date with Veeda

Fri, 7 Dec 2007 Source: ghanamusic.com

Very soon she will have jaws dropping every time she opens her mouth in the public domain. Veeda is yet to prove herself a genuine rival for female artistes in the Ghanaian but promises music fans complete good music.

From the moment you first place Veeda’s new album in your CD player, her transformation she has gone through, both as an artist and a person, will be evident to you.

Her latest collection is a melting pot of hiplife, contemporary highlife and R&B influences with Ghanaian flavours; a tapestry of songs that are raw, reflective and personal.

The album is the first step of Veeda and this is the time for Veeda to make her presence felt. Her debut album was recorded with a host of young songwriters like Red Eye, Disastrous and Nix.

Veeda who believes in simplicity is set to achieve what she wanted with a relentless determination and a willingness to stretch her creative boundaries.

Ghana Music.com: All I know about you is that you wanna do music, Please tell me who is behind the name Veeda?

Veeda: Pretty much unpredictable. Cool, down to earth, respectful and well behaved. Migrated to the United States in my teens, went to Tema Secondary School in Tema, but didn’t have the chance to finish, continued at Fairmont Heights High School in the States and graduated from University Of Maryland in the states.  I was once crowned Miss Ghanaian America, (2002).

Ghana Music.com: What were your parents’ dreams for you?

Veeda: To be who I really want to be; and that’s an artist. My parents have been extremely supportive in my life.  My Father noticed my love for music in my early ages and did everything in his power to make sure I didn’t lose it. He also made it clear to have my education first, in which I did.

Ghana Music.com: Are they content or disappointed?

Veeda: My father is deceased but I am sure if he was to be alive, he definitely would have been content. For my mother, she is more than content. I feel like I have been able to achieve the best at the moment of my life and I thank God for that.

Ghana Music.com: Sexuality is a key component of female musicians nowadays. Do you think when you add that to your music life it will be hard for most dudes to catch up to?

Veeda: Not at all, I believe there could be thousands of stars out there but few are the Super Stars. When you are born to do what you do, you really don’t need to add too much, or do much to succeed. All you need is to be focused and humility. At the same time, I believe in looking sexy and hot with a class.

Ghana Music.com: What’s the hottest line, you’ve ever spit or sang on a song?

Veeda: The best is yet to come but I will leave that for my future fans to decide.

Ghana Music.com: Other than Mzbel, Abrewa Nana, Sexy D and K. K. Vidash are there any other female rappers that you’re feeling?

Veeda: I believe those are the only female rappers I do know or have heard of. Besides, there are two singers that I am feeling right now; Becca and Dela.

Ghana Music.com: Is there anyone you are afraid to sing with?

Veeda: No, not at all; But would rather love to sing with Kojo Antwi

Ghana Music.com: Are you ever shocked or surprised at what comes through in your voice?

Veeda: I wouldn’t say shock or surprise, but impress and thankful.

Ghana Music.com: What exactly is your vocal range?

Veeda: I sing all parts. I have done a lot of back up singing for lots of artists.

Ghana Music.com:  So are you still going to give us some of the raunchy stuff we have been hearing in the Ghana music industry?

Veeda: I don’t intend to offer any offensive messages but well put together, fun, and good lyrics. I just want people to have much fun as I do when I listen to good and fun music and that’s what I have to offer the world.

Ghana Music.com:  So who else did you feature on album?

Veeda: The incredible Red Eye from 2 Toff, the talented Disastrous, and one of the most amazing singers out Nix.

Ghana Music.com: Outside of music what do you have going on? What moves are you making?

Veeda: I am in the movie industry also. I have done a couple of movies, which have not been out yet, so I can not talk so much about them. I am also in the process of shooting others; I am sure these would be out soon. I am also into fashion.

Ghana Music.com:  Tell me about the new album and when does it hit stores?

Veeda: The album is a mixture of Twi and English songs. It has a little bit of everything to it; hip-Life, hi-Life, R&B, etc. The album is expected to hit stores between April and May next year.

Ghana Music.com: Do you feel good about the new album?

Veeda: I absolutely feel good about this album; because I feel like it’s my album. I wrote all the songs. I had total control over it. Not to forget, my producers also helped out a lot with some touches on the lyrics; especially Daniel. They are both incredible producers; also, since I am still in the studio, there could be more influences from other artistes to be added to the album.

Ghana Music.com: Veeda, as you know the name of the site - Ghana Music.com. In your opinion, as a fan of the music, how would you define real Ghanaian music?

Veeda: Real Ghanaian music, I believe has to have a Ghanaian touch to it. Whether it’s the beat, the rhythm or the lyrics; it definitely has to have some sort of Ghanaian flavor to it.

Ghana Music.com: As the way you defined it, who would you consider being artist that emulates the way you just described real Ghanaian music?

Veeda: I believe most of the artists have so far; not all but most.

Ghana Music.com: As far it’s concerned there are not many female artists in the industry, do you think that it is not beneficial to be a female musician?

Veeda: I do not think so at all. It’s been a long time coming and I believe we’re coming in a good way; I think the guys should watch out for us.

Ghana Music.com: The coming of Veeda?

Veeda: She is coming and you can’t stop her; she’s here to stay here

Ghana Music.com: The future for Veeda?

Veeda: She has more to give to her fans.

Ghana Music.com: Signing out words?

Veeda: It’s been a very long time coming and this time it’s on. I just want my fans to enjoy the album when it comes out.
