Tamale (Northern Region), 11 May ?99

The State Transport Company Limited (STC) is constructing a modern terminal in Tamale at a cost of 150 million cedis as part of its effort to improve customer services.

The Terminal which comprises four loading bays, a passengers lounge, coffee shops and offices is the first phase of a long-term project to expand and modernise the company's services in the North.

Mr. Elvis Amusah, Northern regional manager of the company, made this known in Tamale on Monday when he accompanied Mr. Noble John Appiah, the managing director and other STC officials to pay a courtesy call on Mr San Nasamu Asabigi, the Deputy Regional Minister.

The visit of the Managing Director is part of a tour of STC stations in Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Northern regions.

Mr. Amusah said the second phase which would start next month will comprise a two-storey office complex and appealed to the regional co-ordinating council for assistance to check indiscriminate parking of vehicles at the project site which obstructs the flow of traffic.

Mr. Appiah announced that the STC would soon open a training school in Kumasi to train its drivers, transport officers and mechanics in the northern sector.
