The New York University with site office in Ghana and Heritage Development a social development and event management consult are collaborating in partnership with the National Theatre of Ghana on a celebratory event on Ghanaian highlife music.
The celebration normally includes an intellectual programme and concert that showcases the rich tradition of highlife music and its contemporary manifestations.
The concert which is by invitation, showcases presentations by key highlife artistes representing the different epochs in the development of the art form.
It will be held under the theme "Celebrating Ghanaian Highlife Music: Its impact and relevance."
This year's programme, the third in the series of annual Highlife Concerts, will take place on Saturday evening at the newly opened lobby of the National Theatre.
Bands and artistes that will feature include Ramblers International Band, Amandzeba, Gonje and the Adehye Dance Band.
A surprise guest artiste is on this year's bill and it is expected that it will be an added bonus to invited guests to the programme.
There is no doubt that highlife music is undergoing a lot of stress and seems to be suffering from the lack of patronage, particularly from the younger generation.
It is the hoped that the focus on the genre will stimulate greater interest towards the revival of the art form and for the greater appreciation of our national heritage and culture.
