Some players in the music industry are taking issue with organizers of the Ghana Music Awards just two weeks to the event.
Songs and albums selected for the various category of awards were selected, based on airplay and public vote. But critics of the awards say the selection criteria do not necessary promote excellence in music industry.
They say public vote on songs would be largely influenced by what is played on radio and TV stations.
And this could exclude music which have not enjoyed airplay, not because they are not good but simply because they are not good but simply because the producer does not have the resources to adequately advertise the music.
Joseph Asafo Boachie, a music producer, questioned the scientific basis of knowing which song enjoyed the highest airplay.
Mr. Asafo Boachie believes a committee of experts in Ghanaian music should be set up to draw up a better criteria and devise a more credible method of arriving at the winners of the Ghana Music Awards.
While the organizer, Charter House, does not disagree with the argument being advanced by their critics, they say the Ghana Music Awards is a people?s choice award.
The critics of the music award say the decision to raise these concerns is to prevent a situation where people would cry foul after the event as happened last year.
