ICMT Forum To Unite Music Owners Tomorrow

The Attorney-General led Interim Copyright Management Team (ICMT) overseeing the operations of the Copyright Society of Ghana (COSGA) is organizing what promises to be a groundbreaking consultative forum for all music rights owners this Thursday, December 2, from 9am to 3pm at the Teacher’s Hall, next to the COSGA office.

The primary focus of the meeting is to create a platform for active participation of stakeholders in the music business to attain a unified vision for all, which hopefully will lead to the establishment of one Collective Management Organization (CMO) for all music creators in the country.

Participants include leaders and representatives of organizations like MUSIGA, AMRO, GAPI, REPAGh, NASGAMP, KAMA, PROMAG and SPAG, among others.

Distinguished musicians expected to grace the occasion include the likes of C.K. Mann, Kojo Antwi, Jewel Ackah, Agya Koo Nimo, Naa Amanua, Asabea Cropper and Kente Man, Kwabena Kwabena, Reggie Rockstone, Okyeame Kwame, Obuor, Tic Tac, Thomas Frimpong, Dr. Paa Bobo, Tagoe Sisters, Yaw Sarpong, Christina Love, Kojo Essah and several others; an interesting fusion of highlife, hiplife, gospel and traditional music exponents.

Key music producers, academicians and other players will also be present to share ideas to move the industry forward.

Speaking to BEATWAVES, ICMT member Carlos Sakyi states: “The music industry is at the crossroads: we either unite and succeed, or disintegrate and perish!

This conference will provide us with a great opportunity to identify our challenges and find innovative and lasting solutions to them.

The time has come to put the chaotic past behind us and move forward. I sincerely believe after this conference, music industry practitioners will speak and act with one voice.”

He added, “With a united front, we will transform the music business into the gold mine that it is. Failure is not an option. And with God’s direction, we shall succeed. It’s destiny time”.
