Jennifer Lomotey song not offensive – Akumaa Mama Zimbi

Radio and TV personality, Joyce Akumaa Dongotey-Padi, popularly known as Akumaa Mama Zimbi, has said she finds nothing offensive with the song “Jennifer Lomotey” as an indigene of Krobo.

Krobo citizens became angry over what they call a deliberate attempt by rapper, Sarkodie, to denigrate them and their women over a line he said in the song titled “Jennifer Lomotey”, composed by one Kurl Songx which he [Sarkodie] was featured.

In the song, the award-winning rapper mentions Jennifer Lomotey, whom he says is a Krobo. According to Sarkodie, the Krobo lady was able to “ride” him well in bed because Okomfo Anokye has cursed her with ''adwaman'' (promiscuity).

They also said they were at a loss as to how Sarkodie could stoop low to commercialise a “sensitive and fabricated lie, a stereotype and a myth” and profit from it at the expense of a tribe.

The Krobo Advocacy and Heritage Association threatened legal action against the rapper and called on him to retract and apologise. But speaking on Entertainment Capital on Accra100.5FM, Akumaa said “Jennifer Lomotey” was not offensive.

“I was never ever offended, why should I be offended?” she quizzed in an interview with show host, Bismark Boachie (DJ Premier).

Asked if she saw the ‘offensive’ lyrics as a compliment, the sex educator said: “Yes, because we don’t have a challenger. Do we have a challenger?”

She continued: “Normally, humans waste our time on unnecessary things. We shouldn’t waste our time on this. Personally, I was not offended. I noticed by kinsmen took offence and complained. Some even confronted me but we don’t have any challenger. We are blessed with it so for me, that’s ok because if I need Sarkodie, I can go to him and talk to him but I’m ok.”
