Ghanaian artiste, KiDi was nominated in a category at the 2018 edition of HEADIES because organizers thought he is a Nigerian.
He was nominated in the ‘Rookie of the Year‘ category – designed for young Nigerian acts who performed well during the year under review.
The ‘Odo‘ crooner’s name was taken off when the organizers noticed the mistake.
Richie Mensah, label head of Lynx Entertainment made the revelation during an interview over the weekend.
‘’They told us that they made a mistake because ‘Odo’ had hit so much in Nigeria that when they were putting together the songs, they assumed Kidi was a Nigerian,” explained Mensah to Naa Ashorkor on Showbiz A-Z on JOY FM.
“So they added him to a nomination which is meant for only Nigerians. When they realized that he was a Ghanaian they had to take his name out.”
He also added that the mistake shows that KiDi made a great impact on the Nigerian music scene.
Sarkodie was nominated in the ‘African Artiste of the Year’ category. It is awarded to an indivdual or group with the most outstanding achievement, impact and infiltration into the Nigeria music scene during the year under review.
Cassper Nyovest, Nasty C, Sauti Sol and Vanessa Mdee are the other nominees in the category.
The HEADIES was established in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine. It highlights outstanding achievement in the Nigerian music industry.
The awards event will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018.
