Lumba’s era of transformation

Charles Kojo Fosu, aka Daddy Lumba, a native of Nsuta in the Ashanti Region has done it again. This time, he is out with a new gig scheduled for promotion in October and is to be released in November this year.

This album with 10 tracks is known as ‘Agenda’, which he said is coming from a different perspective.

The music lord, regarded as the favorite of all has co-created a transformational sound label termed ‘DL” which is  in the pipeline.

Our sources indicate that the move will contribute to the promotion of sex health product which includes condom.

The former student of Juaben Secondary school had a feel for Television programs and initially had the zeal to become a lawyer.

However the inability of his father to cater for his admission into the University precipitated the end of his education.

“I struggled and went to Germany to seek for greener pastures. In Germany, I got myself into music and in the course of my career; I met Nana Enerst Achampong, my old time friend.”

According to him, together with Nana, they recorded their first album but did not get a producer because of the hard trend of the music industry then “three years afterwards, my wife came into the scene and assisted us to produce the first album called ‘me ye aka awantuom’, that won the album of the year award in 1999.”

He disclosed that most of his lyrics were gotten from his “day to day interaction with people and what happens to him on daily basis.”

Explaining the idea behind his new album, he said “my songs are not profane, Its just that people don’t listens to the words to know what exactly it says, instead read their own meaning into it” adding “we are made to believe that whatever comes from Obuasi is called gold or riches, but it isn’t so, rather you need to work for it by going deep into the rocks for the gold or riches; but people are already reading meaning into it. All the same, the album is doing well in the market.”

For the past ten years, Daddy Lumba said, he has being “under the management of Despit Music Production till last year, when I found another manager, who has managed some of our popular artist and at the moment, he is with Obrafour called Franklin.”

He regarded Franklin as a creative and innovative personality with the zeal to surprise which has helped him with his current album.

Shifting from his relationship with Nana Achampong, Lumba stressed that both recorded their albums last year, which was supposed to be released this year.

However, he said that both of them had an album which is ready to be released. Due to that, they could not release their joint album.

Furthermore he told The Saturdays Statesman that both parties had agreed to release it next year for their mutual benefit.

“It is a mutual agreement between Nana and myself to team up and release an album and to separate afterwards. There has being no problem ever since as most people think.”

Lumba said he was trained in the children’s choir. He wants to contribute his quota to the music industry, but expressed “disgust in the way music awards are given to musicians whose songs are not really making impact in the music, while those with best album selling rates are left out of the system because they have nobody to speak on their behalf.”
