MMC gospel explosion

Ghanaians who would be trooping to the British Council Hall on Saturday December 1 would be in for a big treat as the Music Ministry Chorale (MMC) dishes out a feast of gospel tunes.

Dubbed “The MMC 9th Anniversary Choral Concert”, the programme, initiated by the directors of the choir is an annual event which provides a platform for the celebration of rich hymns and classical music which discerning music lovers describe as quality music.

The concert, which is from 6:00 to 8:00pm, would delve into eclectic mix of Ghanaian and African-American gospel songs, spiritual songs, Christmas carols including a Caribbean Calypso Christmas spiritual and Western Classic.

Speaking to Beatwaves, the Founder/Director, Mr Richard Acquaah-Harrison stated that MMC which had been in existence for 9 years had been designed to bring back to discerning music lovers and the general public the memories of choral concerts, during which the audience could enjoy a variety of songs.

“Africa is now a major marketplace for harnessing human resource and manpower to compete on the world stage.”

Excited by the opportunity to project the quality songs of renowned musicians such as E. Amu, J.H. Nketia, Asare Bediako, Victor Manieson and some European composers including Handel, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Mendelssohn, Mr Acquaah-Harrison stressed that it was of great importance to acknowledge the works of these great composers whose artistic works were perfect.

On the history of the choir, he indicated that MMC over the past years had initiated and successfully performed concerts with various artistes and groups such as the John Teye Memorial School Band, Ghana Symphony Orchestra, Cindy Thompson and Gina West, an exceptional classically trained and talented gospel singer from London, and others.

The Director expressed satisfaction with previous concerts and their patronage and pointed out that this year’s promises to be more fun, even so when admission is free.

Touching on the importance of the concert, he explained that it was the directors’ - Mrs Muriel Acquaah-Harrison and Mr Victor Manieson - and MMC’s own way of proclaiming the word of God through songs and also celebrating Christ with fellow humans.
