All but two of the 21 victims of the motor accident that involved the bus carrying some members of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and a taxi in Brong Ahafo on Wednesday have been treated and discharged from hospital.
During a visit by newsmen to St John of God Hospital at Duayaw Nkwanta in Tano North District, where the victims were sent to, only Mr Rex Dan Pongo, a musician, who suffered an arm injury and Mr Evans Cliff Batcho, Secretary to Alhaji Sidiku Buari, Former President of the Union, who sustained a pelvic injury, were on admission.
Mr Desmond Kuuplel, nurse in charge of the emergency ward, however said “hopefully” the two would also be discharged soon. A KIA bus with registration number UW 9955 X carrying members and other staff of MUSIGA, who were returning to Accra after their national congress in Sunyani on Wednesday crashed into an Opel ASTRA taxi cab with registration number BA 801 U that allegedly crossed it at Afrisipakrom, near Duayaw Nkwanta.
The Union elected new executives with Mrs Diana Hopson as the new President at the congress.
Ironically, the bus bore the inscription, “Good Luck” on its side and was found by newsmen still stuck in a teak farm while the badly damaged taxi was parked by the road side.
Police Inspector Thomas Atowan in charge of the Accident Squad at Duayaw Nkwanta disclosed that the impact of the crash was so great that the engine of the taxi was removed and was still under the bus in the bush.
Inspector Atowan advised drivers to be very careful especially as Christmas was approaching, noting with regret that the drivers had taken undue advantage of the good roads to speed unnecessarily.
