The Musicians Association of Ghana (MUSIGA) is putting measures in place to deal with recalcitrant event organizers who use musicians’ names for publicity gimmicks without the consent of the artistes.
The Communications Manager for MUSIGA, Kwame Nsiah Appau, aka Okyeame Kwame told Adom Entertainment News that the initiative is to curb such incidencts where some event organizers use names of musicians for publicity in order to attract large crowds to their shows without informing the artiste.
He was reacting to a recent incident where the organizers of the Ghana Music and Food Fair, Konsule Entertainment publicized a concert for Okyeame Kwame and Obrafuor to renew their rivalry, without the notice of the two artistes.
The three-day show is slated for October 28 - 30, 2011 at the Trade Fair Centre, but Okyeame Kwame told Adom Entertainment News “I did not know anything about that concert until you called me and told me about it.”
He has denied involvement in the upcoming event, saying nobody has contracted him for a show as part of the Ghana Music and Food Festival.
Okyeame Kwame said it was for such gimmicks by recalcitrant event organizers that MUSIGA would soon constitute a taskforce that will monitor the activities of all event organizers in Ghana and those found culpable would be dealt with.
The MUSIGA Communications Manager said the union was currently concentrating on a membership drive, and also working to unite members after which attention would be shifted to activities of event organizers.
