Edna, Monica and Cynthia
The Daughters of Glorious Jesus emerged on the Ghanaian musical scene in 1990 with their hit song Anwanwa Do. Two years later, in 1992, the group came out with Mebo Yesu Din Daa.

It was one of the successful albums of the young trio, Cynthia, Edna and Monica. The album won Entertainment and Critics Association of Ghana (ECRAG), Best Gospel Group in 1992.

They followed it up with Mesom Awurade Daa in 1994. This album won Cynthia the ECRAG, Best Female Vocalist Award in 1996. Then the group came out with Asomdwe Hene and Ngyae Mpae Bo Da, which featured Edna as the lead singer and they followed it up with a remix of their maiden album, Anwanwa Do.

The group had to take a rest between 1997 and 1999 because the two blood sisters of the group, Edna and Cynthia, were taken to the altar by their spouses and subsequently became mothers.

They returned with a bang in 2000 with the Nea Yehu Yi album, which confirmed their dominance on the Ghanaian gospel landscape.

In 2003, the group released Aseda which saw them recounting their trails, tribulations and their miraculous deliverance from death.

According to the trio, they really had a hectic time in 2002, but because of their unflinching faith and trust in God they were able to overcome those difficulties.

Monica mentioned an incident in which she was attacked by an armed gang in their house, an incident which led to the loss of lives of two of her close neighbours. Another got seriously injured.

Cynthia also had her share of misfortune when she was attacked at a train station in Amsterdam, Holland where armed bandits attempted to rob her. That explains why the group came out with the praise album Mebo Yesu Din Daa to express their gratitude to God for His wonderful protection and guidance.

Back in 1987, the Daughters of Glorious Jesus started as part of the choir of the Resurrection Power and Living Bread Ministries, then headed by the late Rev. Francis Akwasi Amoako.

The three teenage girls, who were part of the choir, were fond of one another and performed musical shows together anytime they had the least opportunity.

Later on, when the current General Overseer of the Church, Bishop Akwasi Asare Bediako, realised the potential in these teenage girls, he encouraged and motivated them to have the sky as the limit.

They were transformed from the ordinary Cynthia, Edna and Monica group to the great name, the Daughters of Glorious Jesus. The Bishop took them along each time the church had a crusade or programme anywhere for song ministration.

By dint of hard work and by virtue of their determination to succeed, they were able to successfully carve a niche for themselves and are now a force to reckon with when one talks about the gospel scene.

It is therefore no wonder that at the recent Ghana Music Awards programme, the Daughters of Glorious Jesus won five out of 14 competitive awards, including the Best Album of the Year.

Edna Sarpong (n?e Agyare) is the big sister of Cynthia, lead singer of the Daughters of Glorious Jesus. She is in charge of the costume of the group. She was born on November 21, 1970, at Nsuta Kwameng. She attended the Kumasi Roman Catholic Girls School and trained as a fashion designer after completing elementary school.

Monica Owusu-Ansah (n?e Boahene) is a mother of three, Michelle, nine, Kobby, three and Kojo, who is six months. She is responsible for the prayer and fasting sessions of the group especially when they were about to come out with an album.

She is prayerful and takes charge of uplifting the spiritual life of the group.

Monica was born in Kumasi on April 2, 1969, to Mr. Robert Boahene now with the Trades Union Congress, Kumasi and Madam Afua Nkrumah, a Kumasi based trader.

According to her, she is the first person to come out prominently as a singer in her family. She attended the Garden City Commercial School in Kumasi where she trained as a secretary. Her favourite food is fufu and light soup.

Cynthia Appiadu (n?e Agyare) was born on March 19, 1973, in Kumasi to Mr John Agyare and Madam Agnes Yaa Akyaamah.

She attended the St. Anne?s Preparatory and Garden City Commercial schools where she trained as a secretary.

Cynthia is the lead singer of the Daughters of Glorious Jesus gospel group. She writes and composes most of the songs of the group and she is their spokesperson and that explains whey even though she is the youngest in the group, she is the leader. She likes jollof rice and stew.
