Meridian Holds Peace Concert

There seems to be too much tension in the system as the December elections draw near. And the media can escalate the tension or ?cool things down?.

For this reason Meridian 100.5 FM, a Tema-based radio station has launched a programme to get the media to preach peace. The event dubbed ?All Media Peace concert?. Is scheduled to come off on Saturday, October 30, 2004 at the Oninku Park, Community one in Tema.

Through the power of music and other entertainment activities organisers of the show will educate the public to ensure peaceful elections while encouraging the media to replace adversarial reporting publishing of unchecked and biased stories with peaceful messages and a special responsibly for promoting development.

Nii Ayi Owoo, the co-coordinator of the event said the ?All Media Peace Concert?, is being held to engaged the attention of well-meaning media practitioners, religious groups, political party leaders, representative and performing artistes to educate the masses to coexist and tolerate dissenting views. The theme of the concert is ?Promoting Peace, Tolerance and Decency?.

He stressed the importance of the event, saying that it will bring together the media, politicians and entertainment groups, artistes and religious organizations in the peace process particularly now that conflicts are raging in neighbouring countries.

Some of the hiplife artistes expected to be on the bill include Kwaadee, Obour, Buk Bak, Tinny, Batman, VIP, George Jaraah and Nkasei. Other gospel and highlife artistes are expected on the bill.

Also, there shall be the presidential candidates or their representatives to give the live audience firm promises for a peaceful election. He stressed the need to encourage the people, particularly politicians to strive for decency.


The African continent is burdened with several conflicts and civil strife. The devastating effect of these conflicts on the socio-economic environment of the affected countries cannot be overemphasized. Today, Africa host over a third of the world?s displaced persons, the Meridian FM has launched this concert to remind Ghanaians that peace is key.
