Ace musician and copyrights advocate, Mr. Carlos Sakyi has revealed that mixing of songs by DJ's on radio is not just musically wrong but also a copyright infringement.
said this when he granted an interview to Londona on 'Da Mega Show' on Eastern 105.1FM in Koforidua when they were having a discussion on the topic:"The Mixing Craze by Radio DJ's-Good or Bad?". According to Carlos, mixing is an activity that alters the originality of a song and thus robs it off its beauty.
"You know we play with a lot of things in this country. I mean we take a lot of things for granted. When you mix songs, you change the identity of the song and as paternity rights holds, no composer or owner of a song will smile over his song being mixed by a DJ. The act is musically wrong and for those who don't know, it is a copyright infringement",he hinted.
In a separate interview with Okyeame Quophi, who is a broadcaster, musician and event organizer, he told Londona, he has personally done a couple of mixes before while he was a radio presenter but thinks it could sometimes sound irritating when it is being done.
Some panelists and callers also said it was bad for a DJ to mix two or more songs because according to them every song has its own key and the mere fact that the beats are synchronized does not make it sound musical; the keys must also jive. They rather saw it as noise and suggested that if it is true that the mixing craze originated from the night club, it should remain there and not be replicated on radio.
