Music, Culture And Arts Expo In October

The Pan African Arts Programme on Music and Culture will hold an Archives Music Photo exhibition at the British Council in Accra from October 6 to 8 this year.

The photo exhibition will showcase the culture transformation of highlife and African derived music from 1880, the offshoot of highlife and the fusion into African jazz, Jamaican roots reggae and world music to present day.

The photo exhibition will showcase popular and legendary musicians like Kofi Ghanaba (Guy Warren), E.T. Mensah, King Bruce, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Osibisa?s Afro-rock, Koo Nimo and other renowned musicians.

The open day lectures will showcase film slides, musical demonstrations and highlife lectures by Prof. John Collins of (BAPMAF) and head of music department of University of Ghana and jazz lectures by Juma Santos, a Pan Africanist, African-American and a lecturer at University of Ghana.

The Pan African Arts programme is a collaboration between Weekend Entertainments Networks and Bokoor African Popular Music Archives Foundation (BAPMAF) and supported by the British Council in Ghana.

The programme will maintain a collection of audio-visual materials for foreign institutes and scholars for research and study purposes.

The exhibition materials will be sent to African studies centres throughout Europe for academic purposes and exhibition.

There are other educational programmes for the youth which include collaborations with Ghana National Commission on Children and the music department of the University of Education Winneba.

Details of the programme will soon be unveiled.
