Tamale, Nov. 10, GNA - The Northern Regional Chairman of the Musician Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Mr Delali Alormenu has called on government to see the music industry as a potential sector to reduce unemployment rate.

He said musicians are partners of nation's development and called on the government to give it the necessary footing and attention to be able to contribute meaningfully to the development of the country. Mr Alormenu was addressing an opening ceremony of a five-day capacity building

workshop for musicians from five selected districts in the Northern in Tamale on Tuesday. It was under the theme: "Knowledge - the way to Development and Success," with the aim

of hunting musical talents in the region, project the northern music to attract tourists and

create wealth for the people. The workshop is also expected to equip participants on the

copy right laws. He described the industry as the hub of employment and also called on government to fast

track the passage of a proposed Legislative Instrument (LI) on musical piracy and other copy

right laws to sanitize the industry. Alhaji Ahmed Adams of the Trade Unions Congress (TUC) urged musicians to compose

songs that would bring unity and promote development and not what would divide the nation. "Music could be the best medium of peace and unity. It is a powerful medium that could
