Musician starts library at Zorko

Zorko (U/E), Oct 22, GNA - A musician, Mr. Brice Osei Kufuor popularly known as Obuor, in collaboration with the Ghana Read Wide and Youth Icon Ghana, have begun building a community library complex at Zorko in the Bongo District. Cutting the sod Obuor said he was also a social activist who felt that his responsibility went beyond singing. He said one of the best ways to help build society was to provide libraries for the youth and to encourage them to read and it was based on that, that together with his collaborators they launched the Ghana Read Campaign project in Accra.

Obuor said he decided to select the Upper East Region as the first reion because there were a lot of cluster schools in the area that could make maximum use of the library and that other regions would also be provided with libraries in due course. Obuor presented a cheque for 5,000 Ghana cedis for the foundation and said there would be money for the continuation until the project is completed. He said Ghana Read Wide and the Kingdom Books and Stationary had already agreed to provide books and also furnish the library. He urged students in the area to patronize the library to derive maximum benefit from it instead of idling.

The Executive Director of Youth Icon Ghana, Nana Yaw Osei Darkwa said his outfit and the others in the library project were committed to the project and would make follow ups to ensure that the project was executed well. The Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Baba Salifu Aleemyaarum, commended Obuor and his partners for the laudable effort and noted that it would help uplift education in the area. The District Chief Executive for the area, Mr Clement Akugre Atia assured the musician and his group that the assembly would do everything to support them realize their dream.
