According to these music followers and fans who spoke to P&P in separate interviews, the kind of lyrics which are employed in modern day songs rather go a long way to corrupt morals and behaviour instead of shaping it.
?Musicians are like opinion leaders who have a great influence on the society, especially the youth. Therefore whatever they do or say in their songs go a long way to affect society positively or negatively,? stated one interviewee.
As a matter of fact, it is important for our musicians to compose songs that preach against anti-social acts and behaviours like rape, stealing, corruption and fornication. Unfortunately, songs, which contain indecent and sexually suggestive lyrics, have in recent times received patronage and airplay, thereby encouraging other artistes to tow the same line.
As if confirming the generally held belief that ?sex sells?, these musicians who release suggestive songs are guarded more by profit motives than the good of society. In the opinion of John Assan, a Takoradi based composer, ?Gone are the days when one learned important social lessons after listening to songs from people like Nana Ampadu, Mr. A.A.A., among others?.
