Fans of ubiquitous Obaa Yaa Grace Ashey who is well known in the gospel music arena for composing powerful Black Star cheer songs has been forced and convinced to attend to the historical tournament ever on the soils of Africa, FIFA World Cup 2010 at South Africa by her fans.
When it was reported that the Musicians Union of Ghana has been contracted by FIFA and the government of Ghana to perform in and around Johannesburg in South Africa, the musicians were short-listed leaving many of them out.
The likes of high life gurus Gyedu Blay Ambuley, Bessa Simon, Rex Omar, Wutah and some gospel musicians Diana Hopeson, the president of the musicians union of Ghana, Ohemaa Mercy and a hosts of others were purported to have already started rehearsals in the training center of Musigha.
One name almost every Ghanaian wanted to hear from the list was the ace gospel musician Grace Obaa Yaa Ashey whom records show, is the first gospel musician to have come out boldly to support the Black Stars.
Despite loads of criticisms even from some of her own gospel musicians in the year 2006, her name was excluded with no vivid explanation from the President of Musigha Mrs. Diana Hopeson and the co-ordinator for the committee Mr. Kwasi Ernest (Media Excell) .
Grace Ashey whose song “Oye” was officially signed by Gold Fields Ghana limited, has been given a free air ticket to South Africa to support the Black Stars of Ghana. The report says Grace Ashey decided not to go for some reasons but was spoken to attend to the call.
It was due to this report that when Flex newspaper heard that Grace Ashey is going to South Africa, we decided to call her to find out what might have made her change her mind this time and she had this to say.
“In fact, it is true that I decided not to go for some reasons which I wouldn't want to disclose now but my fans won`t let me have my peace of mind. They kept on calling my cell phone just to tell me they want to see me there.
Many of them thought I had no air ticket that is why I did not want to go so as I am talking to you, I have about five air tickets ready if I decide to go, all from my fans. Because of this I did not have any option than to respond to my fans in order to make them happy. So tell my fans I am gone so they should keep on with their prayers” Grace Ashey said.
Grace Ashey`s “Oye” song according to some fans is the song that can boost their moral because they think it has some spiritual backings. The song is now receiving massive air play both on radio and tv stations as we wait to qualify to the next stage. GO GO GO BLACK STARS.
