The year 2007 left us with great memories in the showbiz industry of Ghana. It may have been a good year for others but the year was a horrible one for Ghanaian female sensation, Mzbel who was attacked and reportedly raped by a gang of armed robbers.
She however proved the strength in her character when she stood up to the challenges and released an album. Some would have thought that was the end of the young diva but she made it on stage again playing shows at the end of the year.
We do recall when she couldn’t sleep in her house for fear of being attacked again by unknown persons. Her story was all over the newspapers in Ghana in 2007.
Of course, trust the media to cache in on any juicy bit of information that sells pages. Only God knows what the young lady went through when some social commentators blamed her for causing her own troubles. They even put the blame on her for the way she appears on stage and in music videos.
To make matters worst for her, she ended up with no management to cushion her in those times of trouble.
In spite of all the attacks, bad press and sometimes-blatant hatred expressed through the media, she survived the year 2007. Has anybody wondered how she made it when she was forced to leave her house?
In 2007, the media gained the reputation for reporting extensively in sometimes-exaggerated terms when a public figure was in trouble but caring and focusing less on how the person gets out of the trouble.
Mzbel managed to get out of trouble with little or no support from the media. She went to the studio, financed and recorded her album, she shot and directed her music video and pushed her songs for airplay at radio stations.
For pulling herself by the bootstraps and most importantly, pulling her socks up as well, Mzbel wears the crown of Showghana.com Ghana’s Diva of the year 2007. Congratulations Mzbel.
